ORTLEY BEACH – A local man was hospitalized after being stabbed multiple times during a fight Thursday, police said.  

  Authorities were called to a home on Harding Avenue in Ortley Beach where they found 57-year-old Patrick Robertelli of Monmouth Beach and 52-year-old Michael Abrams of Toms River physically fighting outside the home. 

  Officers successfully separated the two men and quickly noticed that Abrams had been stabbed several times. First aid was rendered on scene before EMS arrived. However, due to the injuries being life threatening, Abrams was flown to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune for treatment, police said.

  According to authorities, Robertelli traveled to the home to confront Abrams. When Robertelli arrived, the altercation began resulting in Robertelli stabbing Abrams multiple times. 

  Robertelli was arrested and transported to Toms River Police Department without incident. A knife was recovered on scene and taken by police as evidence, police said. 

  Robertelli was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, harassment and stalking.

  Robertelli’s charges were placed on a warrant, and he is currently being held at the Ocean County Jail pending a first appearance detention hearing.

Later in the day Friday, the Prosecutor’s Office put out the following release:

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer that on June 6, 2025, Patrick Robertelli, 57, of Toms River, was charged with Attempted Murder, Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Harassment, and Stalking, all in connection with an incident that occurred in the Ortley Beach Section of Toms River Township on June 5, 2025.

On June 5, 2025, at approximately 10:45 p.m., Officers from the Toms River Township Police Department responded to a residence on Harding Avenue in the Ortley Beach section of Toms River for a report of a disturbance.  Responding Officers found Robertelli and a 52-year-old male involved in a physical altercation outside the residence.  As Officers separated the two individuals, they discovered that the 52-year-old male had been stabbed multiple times.  He was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune where he is listed in critical but stable condition.

An investigation conducted by the Toms River Township Police Department revealed that Robertelli traveled to the victim’s residence to confront him and a female who was also at the residence.  When Robertelli arrived at the residence, an altercation ensued which resulted in Robertelli stabbing the victim multiple times.  Further investigation revealed that Robertelli had sent multiple threatening text messages to the female.  Robertelli was taken into custody at the scene without incident.  He was transported to the Ocean County Jail, where he is presently lodged pending a detention hearing.

“The Toms River Township Police Department did an excellent job handling this investigation and taking the defendant into custody without incident.  Likewise, I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit for the excellent job they always do,” Prosecutor Billhimer stated.
