BRICK – A South Amboy man has admitted to leaving the scene after striking a pedestrian, resulting in their death, authorities said.
Mark Carey, Jr., 21, of South Amboy, pled guilty to Knowingly Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident Resulting in the Death of Another in connection with a fatal hit and run crash that occurred on January 13, 2024, in the area of Route 35 South and Bay Avenue in Brick Township.
At the time of his sentencing on June 13, 2025, the State will be seeking a term of six years New Jersey State Prison.
Police said that Carey was driving a 1999 Ford Explorer at around 9:15 a.m. on January 13. The truck hit a woman on the shoulder of the roadway near Route 35 South and Bay Avenue.
