MANCHESTER – A Township man is severely injured after crashing into a pole on Route 530 in Whiting on Friday evening, police said.
The driver, 72-year-old Pasquale Foggio, was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune following the crash. His condition was listed as stable, Manchester Capt. Vincent Manco said.
According to police, Foggio was driving east in a gray 2010 Cadillac Escalade around 6:23 p.m. when the SUV went off the road near Crestwood Parkway, hitting a traffic sign and utility pole support wire, then continuing on before striking a signboard and coming to a stop after colliding with a tree.
Police said that Foggio possibly suffered a medical event before the crash. The road was partially closed during the cleanup.
Assisting at the scene were emergency medical technicians from the Manchester Township Division of Emergency Services, Whiting Volunteer Fire Department, Joint Base Fire Department, paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Life-Flight Medevac helicopter and Priced Rite Towing.
Patrolman Brendan Brush of the Traffic Safety Unit is investigating the incident.
