JACKSON – A 17-year-old juvenile from Seaside Heights has been arrested for stealing a car and attempting to flee police, officials said.
Around 10:45 p.m. August 3, officers responded to a report of two stolen cars in the area of Imperial Place. About 15 minutes later, they spotted the stolen cars traveling northwest on Leesville Road at the intersection of Freehold Road.
As they attempted to pull over the vehicles, the one car driven by a 17-year-old lost control and crashed into a tree, which caused it to burst into flames. The minor then tried to flee the scene on foot, however officers apprehended them.
The juvenile was taken into custody and was charged with Theft of Moveable Property, Eluding, Obstruction, and Resisting Arrest by Means of Flight.
Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer and Jackson Township Police Chief Matthew Kunz commended the Jackson Township Police Department, Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Vehicular Homicide Unit, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, for their collaborative efforts in connection with this investigation.
The charges referenced are merely accusations and the public are reminded that all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
