HOWELL – A driver was indicted on assault and manslaughter charges for her involvement in a crash that claimed the life of a three-year-old girl.
Samantha E. Bonora, 31, was charged with one count of first-degree Aggravated Manslaughter, two counts of second-degree Aggravated Assault and two counts of fourth-degree Assault by Auto.
Police said that on January 13, Bonora was driving south on Route 34 at around 4:40 p.m. She travelled into the oncoming lane, where her Dodge Ram pick-up truck collided head-on with an oncoming Jeep Grand Cherokee. Her truck came to a stop in the northbound lane, where it was rear-ended by a Ford Bronco.
One of the passengers in the Cherokee was a three-year-old girl who was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and another passenger, a two-year-old boy, sustained serious injuries. Bonora and the driver of the Jeep were injured as well.
When investigating the crash, it was learned that Bonora was under the influence of “multiple narcotic substances,” police said. She was arrested without incident and is currently incarcerated.
Charges are merely accusations until proven in a court of law.
