FORKED RIVER – A motorcyclist and its passenger were flown to the hospital after colliding with a car Sunday evening, police said.
Around 9:59 p.m., officers responded to the intersection of Beach Boulevard and Route 9 in Forked River regarding a crash.
According to police, the driver of a Jeep Wrangler failed to yield to the right of way of a motorcycle. As a result, the Jeep collided into the motorcycle.
The two individuals from the motorcycle were found unconscious in the roadway, police said. They were subsequently flown the Jersey Shore Medical Center for treatment of significant internal injuries.
The Lacey Township Police Department’s Fatal Accident Support Team, which investigates serious motor vehicle crashes, was activated based on the reported injuries and the severity of the accident. The Ocean County Sherriff’s Department Criminal Investigation Unit was also contacted and responded to photograph the scene.
Lacey Township EMS and the Forked River Fire Department responded to the scene. The roadway remained closed for several hours during the incident, police said.
