TOMS RIVER – After a three-hour negotiation, police have saved a suicidal man from jumping off a parking garage Monday morning.
Around 8:47 a.m., Toms River Police responded to a report of a missing suicidal man. Police were led to Community Medical Center around 9:40 a.m., where the man was found standing on the ledge of the top floor of the parking garage, threatening to jump off.
Negotiators from the Toms River Police Department Detective Bureau responded. Officers spoke with the man for three hours before getting him to come down. Subsequently, he was taken for a mental health evaluation, police said.
Assisting at the scene were Toms River Fire Department, Neptune Township Emergency Management (provided jump air bag), Ocean County Sheriff’s Department, and Community Medical Center Security.
