STAFFORD – A local man was arrested and charged after assaulting an 81-year-old man last week, police said.
On May 15 around 4:55 p.m., an 81-year-old man from Manahawkin went to a home on Compass Court to retrieve mail. At that time, he was confronted by 50-year-old George Rutz of Manahawkin and was subsequently assaulted by him, police said,
The victim sustained a head injury and lost consciousness. Emergency medical services arrived on scene and brought the victim to the Atlantic City Trauma Center for treatment of his injuries.
Rutz was taken into custody and transported to police headquarters where he was charged with 2nd Degree Aggravated Assault on a criminal complaint warrant. Rutz was transported to the Ocean County Jail awaiting a hearing in Ocean County Superior Court.
Patrolman Russell Okinsky was the arresting officer.
All individuals are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
