LAKEWOOD – A Lakewood man was arrested and charged after making several threats in public and possibly brandishing a weapon, police said.

On April 28 around 9 p.m., police responded to the area of Ocean Avenue and Congress Street for a report of a man pointing a gun at people. A man wearing all black, later identified as 29-year-old Eric Hernandez-Sanchez of Lakewood, was seen arguing with another individual. He was detained and at that time there was no firearm located on him or in the area, police said.

Officers conducted interviews with victims and witnesses who reported that Hernandez-Sanchez made “several threatening statements to kill people and a statement that was bias in nature all while brandishing an object that resembled a firearm,” police said.

According to police, officers could not confirm that Hernandez-Sanchez brandished or was in possession of a gun.

Hernandez-Sanchez was placed under arrest and charged with Bias Intimidation a Second-Degree Crime and was later lodged in Ocean County Jail.
