POINT PLEASANT BEACH – A 37-year-old man has been criminally charged after attempting to break into a motel room with a knife, police said.
On December 15, authorities were called to the Amethyst Beach Motel on Arnold Avenue regarding a man with a knife attempting to break into a guest’s room.
The suspect had already fled by the time officers arrived; however, the man was described as wearing a face covering and dark colored sweatshirt.
The victims told police that the man tried to force himself into the room but was unable to due to the chain lock on the door. He then tried to cut the chain with the knife but was unsuccessful. Afterwards, he left the motel, police said
Police were later able to identify the man of 37-year-old Evan Menconi of Point Pleasant Beach. He was charged with Burglary, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon Unlawful Purposes. He later turned himself in without incident and lodged at the Ocean County Jail.
It is presumed that all individuals charged are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
