OCEAN COUNTY – A South Toms River man has been charged with murder in connection with the death of his wife, after police found a belt around the victim’s neck.
Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer confirmed that 38-year-old Gustavo Juarez-Perez was taken into custody on March 8 and charged with Murder, as well as Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.
Authorities said they were called to the home on Hummel Drive in South Toms River at around 9:15 p.m. Responding Officers discovered the body of 30-year-old Cheyanne Juarez unconscious on the floor with blood on her face and a belt around her neck. Emergency lifesaving measures were attempted with negative results, and Juarez was pronounced dead at the scene.
A thorough investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, South Toms River Police Department, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, revealed that Gustavo Juarez-Perez was the individual responsible for his wife’s death and he was taken to the Ocean County Jail where he is presently lodged pending a detention hearing.
Prosecutor Billhimer commends the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, South Toms River Police Department, Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office, for their collaborative efforts in connection with this investigation leading to Juarez-Perez’s swift apprehension.
