LACEY – The mother of a two-year-old who died of a fentanyl overdose was sentenced to a decade in prison, according to Ocean County authorities.

Natalie Sabie, 35, of Lacey, had pleaded guilty to Aggravated Manslaughter. She was sentenced to 10 years in prison, of which she must serve at least 85 percent before being eligible for parole.

Her son died on September 7, 2022. She had called police, saying she found him unresponsive. Officers and paramedics attempted life-saving measures but he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter at Community Medical Center in Toms River, police said.

The toxicology report found a significant amount of fentanyl in the boy’s system, and the investigation found that the child had access to fentanyl in the home, police said.

Sabie was taken into custody on October 14 and has been there ever since.

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer acknowledged the efforts of Assistant Prosecutor Kimberly Carr who handled the case on behalf of the State, and commended the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Lacey Township Police Department, Lacey Township Police Department Detective Bureau, Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office, for their collaborative efforts in connection with this investigation leading to Sabie’s guilty pleas, and now her state prison sentence.
