MANCHESTER – A 75-year-old Ocean County man died after his vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a tree early Friday morning in Manchester Township, authorities said.

Manchester Township Police identified the driver as Michael Martin of Whiting.

Police responded around 5:37 a.m. March 13 to the intersection of Pinewald Keswick Road and Crestwood Parkway for a report of a single-vehicle crash.

Officers arriving at the scene found a gray 2019 GMC Terrain that had traveled off the roadway onto the grassy shoulder before hitting a tree head-on, police said.

Investigators said the vehicle had been traveling west on Crestwood Parkway and stopped at the intersection before attempting to make a left turn onto Pinewald Keswick Road. While turning, the driver lost control of the SUV, which crossed into the northbound lane of Pinewald Keswick Road, left the pavement and collided with a tree.

The crash caused moderate damage to the front passenger side of the vehicle and deployed the driver’s front airbag, authorities said.

Martin suffered internal injuries in the crash and was taken to Community Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.

Manchester Township Emergency Medical Services, paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit and Priced Rite Towing assisted at the scene.

Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing. Police believe an obstructed view through the windshield may have contributed to the crash.

The incident is being investigated by Patrolman Anthony DeBlasio of the Manchester Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit.
