MANCHESTER – New Jersey state officials are investigating a fatal police-involved shooting that occurred Tuesday evening in Manchester.
According to the Attorney General’s Office, one man sustained fatal injuries. His identity is not being released at this time.
Manchester Police Officers responded to Elizabeth Avenue after a 911 call was received around 8:28 p.m. After officers found the man, two officers fired their weapons around 9:10 p.m. which fatally wounded him. A firearm was recovered near the man, officials said.

A 2019 law requires the Attorney General’s Office to conduct investigations of a person’s death that occurs during an encounter with a law enforcement officer acting in the officer’s official capacity or while the decedent is in custody. It requires that all such investigations be presented to a grand jury to determine if the evidence supports the return of an indictment against the officer or officers involved.
The investigation is ongoing and no further information is being released at this time.

Jersey Shore Online went to the scene on the morning of December 6 and found a KIA Optima with major damage. The homeowner, who wished to remain anonymous, said they heard the suspect’s vehicle slam into the car and speed off while the police were in pursuit.
