TOMS RIVER – A man has been killed as the result of an intense house fire that broke out Thursday afternoon, officials said.
Around 3 p.m., first responders were dispatched to an active structure fire on Roberts Road. A home trailer in the Roberts Trailer Park was fully engulfed in flames and heavy smoke.
According to Toms River Police, the caller believed that the homeowner was still inside and attempted to alert him. Toms River Fire Companies responded and were able to extinguish the blaze.

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced today that the body of a deceased man was discovered after searching the home.
The body was brought to Community Medical Center in Toms River for a post-mortem examination and identification.
Additionally, a firefighter was treated for a minor injury at Community Medical Center and released.
At this time, the origin and cause of the fire are under investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Arson Unit, Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, Toms River Township Police Department Detective Bureau, Toms River Township Bureau of Fire Prevention, and the Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office.
