TOMS RIVER – No one inside a house was injured, but one person in a vehicle was flown to the hospital after that vehicle struck a home.
Police said that Steven Lecates, 23, of Florence, NJ was driving east on Adams Avenue at around 8:30 p.m. on June 30. He allegedly went through the stop sign at Fischer Boulevard, striking another vehicle.
The impact sent Lecates’ vehicle over several large decorative stones in the front yard of a house on the corner. One of the stones was pushed into the residence before the vehicle came to rest.
The passenger in Lecates’ vehicle had to be extricated by firefighters. She was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment of injuries to her legs and abdomen.
Police said the homeowners were inside, but were not injured. An inspector from the Toms River Building Department came out to make sure the house was safe.
Lecates received citations for careless driving, disregard of a stop sign, and failure to possess an insurance card. The accident remains under investigation by the Toms River Officer Eric Nelson.
Charges are merely accusations until proven in a court of law.
