MANCHESTER – A 77-year-old remains hospitalized in critical condition after being hit by a car while crossing a street in the township.
Manchester Township Police confirmed the accident around 3:51 p.m. on February 28 left Martha J. Mosley of Whiting with severe injuries to her entire body.
Police said Mosley was walking south on Tuckerton Avenue, attempting to cross the road with her dog on Pershing Avenue when a Toyota Corolla, driven by 45-year-old Karla Carrizales of Manchester, struck her, sending her twenty feet into the roadway.
While Carrizales was not injured, the vehicle suffered front end and windshield damage.
Mosley was medevacked to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.
Assisting at the scene were fire fighters and EMT’s from the Manchester Township Division of Emergency Medical Services, Paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, and NJSP South Star Air Medical Helicopter.
The investigation into the crash is still ongoing, but at this point, sun glare and failure to yield are the primary contributing factors in the crash.
This crash is being investigated by Patrolman Conner Yatauro of the Manchester Township Police Department Traffic Safety Unit.
The police didn’t confirm what happened to Mosley’s dog.
