JACKSON — Township police responded swiftly to a report of an armed individual Wednesday evening, initially directing officers to the area of Jackson Middle School before determining the situation was unrelated to the school, authorities said.
According to a statement from the office of Chief Mary Nelson, the incident was ultimately traced to a nearby residence and was quickly brought under control. Officials confirmed that no injuries were reported.
Police emphasized that at no point was the school involved in the incident, despite early information suggesting otherwise.
“The situation was contained to a residence and resolved through a rapid and tactical response by our officers,” Nelson said in the statement, praising personnel for their professionalism and commitment to public safety.
A local resident who was inside the middle school at the time of the response posted on the Jackson Police Facebook page. She said the visible police presence and coordination with school resource officers helped ease concerns.
“We were in the middle school at the time, and the swift control by the Jackson Police Department and our SRO team made us feel safe and secure,” the resident said. “Thank you to everyone involved for all that you do to keep us safe each and every day.”
Authorities did not release additional details about the individual involved.
