TOMS RIVER – Authorities have identified one of two men who were responsible for sealing nearly $3,000 worth of copper wire from Home Depot in December.
Toms River Police have announced an arrest warrant for Eric Jones, 41, of Wilmington, Delaware. He has been charged with theft, robbery and unlawful possession of a weapon.
On December 6, a man used bolt cutters to cut the lock that was securing wire behind cages. The suspect removed 27 rolls of 12-2 wire which was worth a total of $2,916.
When an employee approached the man, the suspect brandished a utility knife and threatened the employee.
The man along with an associate were then seen loading the wire into a white Chevy Impala and leaving the area. Police said the registered vehicle owner does not match the description of the suspects. The vehicle owner claims to have sold the car at a gas station in Delaware prior to the robbery.
Weeks later, the car was found in a Lowe’s parking lot in Plymouth Township, Pennsylvania. Officers established surveillance and subsequently identified the driver as Jones. Jones also matched the description of the Home Depot suspect.
