WALL – A local man was sentenced to three years in prison for soliciting nude photos from who he thought was a 14-year-old boy but was actually an undercover cop. However, police are asking anyone else who might have been in contact with the predator to come forward.
James Megill, 43, was sentenced on a third-degree charge of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Upon release, Megill faces mandatory Megan’s Law registration and Parole Supervision for Life. He had pled guilty in October.
Police said Megill used an online dating platform in 2019, sending the officer sexually explicit messages and requesting nude photographs of what he thought was a child. Megill was arrested and charged following an investigation by Wall Police, Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
Investigators are seeking additional information about Megill’s activities. Anyone with information can contact Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Detective Anthony Lacher at 800-533-7443.
