WARETOWN – Waretown now has the second recreational cannabis store in the county.

Bloc Dispensary opened in the summer and originally only sold medicinal marijuana. They recently had a soft opening selling recreational. The official ribbon cutting for recreational will be held on December 1. It is located in the ShopRite Plaza on Route 9.

Theresa Adamson, Bloc’s National Retail Director, grew up in Bayville. “We are beyond excited and appreciative that we were given the opportunity to serve not only the medical community but offer products to the adult use community,” she said. “There is something special about growing up so close to Waretown and seeing the community grow. I have opened many stores in my career, but this Waretown store is close to my heart.”

Johnny Ventura, General Manager Of Bloc Waretown, said “I am very proud of the team and the countless hours of training and preparation. My focus was to ensure that we had the most kind, patient, and educated team. We were the first medical dispensary in Ocean County and are happy and ready to also service the recreational visitors. We are proud to say we were the second drive-through in the state and our customers love it.”

“We have our own standalone building right at the corner at Lighthouse Drive,” said Alexzandra Fields, president of Bloc Dispensary. “We have a drive thru as well as a sales floor. Customers can order online in advance or come in and speak to any of our patient care advocates who can assist them whether it is a medical need or just for use.”

Fields added, “we have been medical product only for the last two months and we are now also officially adult use. We have over a dozen people working here. There is a good crew. All of our staff is just incredibly knowledgeable about all the different benefits that each of our products is able to deliver.”

“We see a lot of people come in that maybe tried cannabis many, many years ago in their college days and haven’t touched it since and our staff is able to provide really good recommendations depending on whether someone is actually trying to smoke or if they just want the effects and then they can take an edible,” she added.

“As far as the products go, we have a pretty amazing menu. We have products from many different cultivators across the state of New Jersey. We have some of the highest testing THC in the state from a brand called CROPS which is highly coveted so we are very lucky to have that on our shelves,” she added.

“They produce the highest testing in the state and is pretty hard to find so we are lucky to have a great assortment of theirs. We carry over two dozen brands. On the shelves we sell edibles. We have vapes, pre-rolled and topical products like lotions and balms,” Fields said.

Fields added, “the lotions are really great for those who may be curious about cannabis but don’t necessarily want to smoke it but want it for the therapeutic purposes of treating the aches and pains of arthritis. The lotion products are excellent for that.”

Regarding edibles Fields said, “they are very popular. We have everything from soft chews to pills to lozenges so there is plenty of variety, even caramels.”

Fields said, “I am the president at Justice Cannabis, I previously worked as a consultant within the medical marijuana states on licenses and it has been really amazing to see not only Bloc get their approval, I have other former clients that have been able to open dispensaries across the state too.”

The Social Leaf, a recreational cannabis store, opened for business in South Toms River on July 21. Zen Leaf in Neptune was the first dispensary in the Jersey shore area to offer medical and recreation cannabis products. High Profile on Route 37 in Lakehurst is expected to open early next year having reformatted the interior and exterior of a Burger King restaurant.

Fields noted that while a municipality’s leadership might be conservative, “there is a lot of folks that truly use cannabis for its medicinal properties and when those patients are having to travel 45 minutes or an hour away to get their medication, not only is it a disservice to the community but it is also a huge loss of tax revenue for the town.”

“While there is a stigma about cannabis consumption, I think more and more towns regardless of their political ideologies are realizing that this should be available and with persuasive conversations they do tend to come around to it. Nobody wants to travel very far to get their needs met,” Fields added.

Medical patients are welcome from 8 to 10 a.m. daily. At 10 a.m., all types of customers are welcome. The store closes at 6 p.m. on Sundays, and at 9 p.m. all other days. The firm’s website is blocdispensary.com and they can be reached by calling 973-494-8550.
