TOMS RIVER – A township resident was indicted for punching out a car window of a victim after calling him slurs.
Patrick Pennell, 55, of Toms River, was indicted by a Grand Jury on charges of Bias Intimidation and Criminal Mischief for an incident on November 22, 2022.
The victim had reported that he was visiting an acquaintance when Pennell, the neighbor, approached him and became confrontational. Pennell allegedly made racial and homophobic slurs to the victim. As the victim tried to leave, Pennell punched the driver’s side window, shattering it.
Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer acknowledged the efforts of Senior Assistant Prosecutor Ashley Angelo and Assistant Prosecutor Julie Peterson who presented the case to the Grand Jury on behalf of the State, and commended the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Bias Crime Unit and Toms River Township Police Department for their collaborative efforts in connection with this investigation.
Charges are merely accusations until proven in a court of law.
