OCEAN COUNTY – If you hear a series of loud explosions on Friday, February 28 around the area, don’t be alarmed. No, it’s not the Joint Base training. No, aliens aren’t invading and it isn’t that asteroid that has been in the news lately. It will be the end of the Kingda Ka Roller Coaster at Six Flags Great Adventure.
According to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, there will be a series of rapid explosions to implode the coaster between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m.
An alert was put out stating that the noise may be startling but to not worry. They advise you to keep pets inside if they are sensitive to loud noises.
Kingda Ka debuted in 2005, sending riders 456 feet on the air at 128 mph. It’s delivered more than 12 million rides since its opening.
Six Flags Entertainment Corporation confirmed the closing of the Kingda Ka in November of 2024. The company also announced the retiring of other rides, such as Green Lantern, the Twister, and the Parachutes. The Sky Way, a chair ride that brings guests from one are of the park to another, will also be removed.
