Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced that on May 9, 2025, Angel Perez, 39, of South Toms River, pled guilty to Possession of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute before the Honorable Kenneth T. Palmer, J.S.C., in connection with an incident that occurred in Toms River on September 27, 2023. At the time of his sentencing on July 11, 2025, the State will be seeking a term of seven years New Jersey State Prison.
On September 27, 2023, during the course of an ongoing investigation into the distribution of cocaine in the Toms River area, Detectives assigned to the Toms River Township Police Department Special Enforcement Team observed two motor vehicles parked next to each other in the area of the Presidential Apartments. Detectives witnessed a female exit her vehicle and enter the passenger’s side of the second vehicle – which was being operated by Perez; they approached the vehicle and removed both Perez and the female. As Perez exited the vehicle, Detectives observed a quantity of cocaine in plain view on the driver’s side floorboard of the vehicle. Perez was placed under arrest and charged with Possession of More Than One Half Ounce of Cocaine with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Cocaine, and Wandering to Obtain/Distribute a Controlled Dangerous Substance; he was thereafter transported to the Ocean County Jail. On September 28, 2023, Detectives executed a court-authorized search warrant on Perez’s vehicle. As a result, law enforcement seized additional quantities of cocaine, oxycodone, suboxone, hashish, and drug paraphernalia. Perez was charged accordingly and served with the additional charges at the Ocean County Jail. On October 10, 2023, Perez was released from the Ocean County Jail as a consequence of New Jersey Bail Reform.
Prosecutor Billhimer acknowledges the diligent efforts of Assistant Prosecutor Victoria Esler who is handling the case on behalf of the State, and commends the Toms River Township Police Department and Toms River Township Police Department Special Enforcement Team for their efforts in connection with this investigation.
