MANCHESTER – A motorcyclist crashed his Harley Davidson in an early morning incident that police say was caused by intoxication.

Police said that just before 3:30 a.m. on August 29, Charles Hicks, 54, of Lacey, was driving east on Wranglebrook Road. While making a turn near Canton Drive, the frame of the motorcycle made contact with the pavement. The motorcycle and its driver slid across the road before coming to a rest.

Hicks was not wearing a helmet and was brought to Community Medical Center in Toms River for non-life threatening injuries. He was charged with suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

Police warned that there are more motorcycles on the road during the summer and that drivers should be careful. They also urged all motorcyclists to wear helmets approved by the State Department of Environmental Protection.

Assisting at the scene were Emergency Medical Technicians from the Manchester Township Division of Emergency Services and Priced Rite Towing. The investigation into this crash is still ongoing; however, police said they suspect driving while intoxicated to be the primary contributing factor. The crash is being investigated by Ptl. Brendan Brush of the department’s Traffic Safety Unit.
