  BRICK – A Howell Township woman drove into a local 7-Eleven this morning, leaving the building heavily damaged, police said.

  The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. at the 7-Eleven store located on the corner of Burnt Tavern Road and Burrsville Road.

  Police said 58-year-old Mary O’Brien had accidentally hit the accelerator instead of the brake as she was pulling into a parking space in front of the store. There were no injuries as a result of the one-car accident, police confirmed. O’Brien was cited with Careless Driving.

  The front of the building suffered significant damage and the store was evacuated. On scene were the township’s Building Department and Health Departments to assess the damage and safety concerns. In addition, the Laurelton and Herbertsville Fire Companies responded with the Brick Township EMS and the Technical Rescue Team to secure the damaged building.

  At the time, the 7-Eleven store remains closed until deemed safe to re-open.
