NEW YORK – The woman who was burned alive in a Brooklyn subway car has been identified as an Ocean County resident.

Police confirmed the identity of the victim as 61-year-old Debrina Kawam of Toms River.

33-year-old Sebastian Zapeta has been indicted on one count of murder in the first degree, three counts of murder in the second degree and one count of arson.

Zapeta is scheduled to be arraigned on January 7, when the indictment will be officially unsealed.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement told the press that Zapeta entered the country illegally from Guatemala in 2018 and was deported, but then he reentered.

Toms River Mayor Daniel Rodrick released a statement to Jersey Shore Online, saying that the State of New York and New Jersey need to bring back the death penalty. Rodrick said “we should at least be able to exercise the death penalty for those who are caught on video committing these heinous murders. People convicted of these types of crimes should be put down like rabid dogs!”
