MANCHESTER – An 81-year-old woman was hospitalized after crashing her vehicle into a Manchester home, damaging two other cars and the residence’s garage, authorities said.
Officers were dispatched to 2 Belvedere Drive South at about 11:37 a.m. June 6 for a report of a vehicle into a building, according to the Manchester Township Police Department.
When officers arrived, they found a white 2016 Hyundai Sonata with severe front-end damage, a red 2017 Toyota Camry and a white 2014 Toyota Camry — both of which were parked in the driveway and sustained damage. The attached two-car garage of the home also suffered structural damage.
The Hyundai’s driver, identified as Anita M. Lahm, 81, of Manchester, sustained minor chest and neck injuries and was transported to Community Medical Center for evaluation.
Police said Lahm was driving south on Belvedere Drive North and approaching a stop sign when she may have experienced a medical episode, causing her vehicle to accelerate across Renaissance Boulevard and onto the front yard of the residence. The Hyundai struck the red Toyota Camry, then veered into the garage. The red Camry rotated and collided with the white Camry parked nearby.
Responders included EMTs from the Manchester Township Division of Emergency Medical Services and volunteer firefighters from the Manchester and Ridgeway volunteer fire companies.
The crash remains under investigation, but police said failure to stop at the stop sign appears to be a primary contributing factor. Patrolman Conner Yatauro of the department’s Traffic Safety Unit is leading the investigation.
