BEACHWOOD – Borough officials are asking residents to help reduce rodent activity as Beachwood works to address recent complaints involving rats in the community.
Residents are advised to keep borough-issued trash containers tightly closed, avoid leaving loose garbage or recyclables outside and remove pet food, birdseed and standing water. Yards, garages, sheds, storm drains and other outdoor areas should also be kept clear of clutter, weeds and overgrowth.
Officials recommend storing firewood above ground and away from buildings, using enclosed compost bins and sealing holes or cracks around foundations, walls, doors and windows. Food scraps, grease and other waste should not be placed in drains or outdoor areas.
Concerns may be reported to Beachwood Code Enforcement at 732-286-6000, ext. 217. Health-related questions may be directed to the Ocean County Health Department at 732-341-9700.
