BARNEGAT — A township man who admitted distributing more than 1,000 items of child sexual abuse material through a messaging app was sentenced Oct. 30 to 10 years in state prison, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced.

Fabian Lugo-Sanchez, 29, received the sentence from Superior Court Judge Matthew R. Sage after pleading guilty June 15 before Superior Court Judge David M. Fritch.

Detectives with the prosecutor’s High Tech Crime Squad traced online activity involving child sexual abuse material to an IP address linked to a Barnegat home, authorities said.

Investigators identified Lugo-Sanchez as the person using the Kik Messenger app to access and distribute the material. A further review of his accounts found he had shared more than 1,000 items, according to the prosecutor’s office.

Lugo-Sanchez surrendered at Barnegat police headquarters Feb. 5 with his attorney present. He was taken to the Ocean County Jail and later released pending court proceedings, authorities said.

Supervising Assistant Prosecutor Shanon Chant-Berry prosecuted the case. Barnegat police, the New Jersey State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children assisted the investigation.
