BARNEGAT – Local children will have an opportunity to fish, crab and connect with first responders during the third annual Casting With a Cop youth tournament.
The free, preregistration-only event will be held Saturday, August 22, at the Barnegat Municipal Dock. It is organized by the American Angler Fishing Club in partnership with Barnegat Bay Bait & Tackle and the Barnegat Township Police Department.
Organizers said the program is intended to introduce children to fishing and the outdoors while encouraging positive relationships with local law enforcement.
Participants will receive three hours of fishing and crabbing, lunch, awards and entry into a complimentary youth raffle. The event will also feature two hours of face painting, the Barnegat Police Department’s Ident-A-Kid program and emergency vehicles available for children to explore.
Representatives from several public safety and maritime agencies are expected to attend, including Barnegat police, New Jersey State Police, the State Police Marine Services Bureau, Ocean County Sheriff’s Office, Barnegat Fire Department, U.S. Coast Guard, Sea Tow and Barnegat First Aid Squad.
