LAKEWOOD — A Cream Ridge contractor has been charged following an investigation into an alleged unpaid construction materials purchase, according to police.

Daniel Sachkowsky, 44, was charged May 5 with bad checks and theft by deception after a probe by the Lakewood Police Department.

Authorities said the investigation began when Woodhaven Lumber reported an outstanding balance connected to construction materials purchased through NJ Home Builders & Renovations in 2023. Detectives determined that after the materials were delivered, the payment was later disputed, leaving a substantial unpaid balance.

Police said several partial payments were made over time, but the account was never fully paid and communication with the company eventually ceased.

Sachkowsky was issued a summons pending future court proceedings.

“These types of cases can have a serious financial impact on local businesses,” Chief Gregory H. Meyer said in a statement. “Our detective conducted a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding this transaction, and when it became clear the balance would not be rectified, appropriate charges were filed.”

Officials emphasized that the charges are accusations only and that Sachkowsky is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
