JERSEY SHORE – Local communities are mourning the loss of two middle school students who unexpectantly died over the weekend.
The deaths of the students, a 7th grader from Lake Riviera Middle School in Brick and an 8th grader from Wall Township Public Schools, were two separate incidents – not related or connected.
A letter was sent out to the Lake Riviera Middle School community on May 5 by Principal Kevin Campbell regarding the tragedy and confirmed that counselors will be accessible to students during this difficult time.
“Lake Riviera Middle School students and members of our community may be impacted either directly or indirectly. We will have the Traumatic Loss Coalition and School Counselors available at Lake Riviera Middle School starting (May 6). Resources will be available throughout the day and beyond, as needed, at Lake Riviera Middle School to assist the staff and students,” the letter stated.
Although specifics of the death and the identity of the student were not disclosed, Brick School District spokeswoman Susan McNamara told Jersey Shore Online it was a tragic, sudden incident.
“The school is very saddened by it. He will be missed by his classmates and his teachers. Our entire school system sends their deepest sympathies to his parents and family,” McNamara said.
Coincidentally, another tragic death happened over the weekend with an 8th grade student from Wall Intermediate School. A school letter was sent out on May 5 addressing the student’s unexpected death
“On behalf of the school community, we know you will join us in sending thoughts of support and condolences to the family and friends,” Wall Superintendent Tracy Handerhan said in the letter.
Details and circumstances around the death were not disclosed.
Wall Township Public Schools did not provide a statement to Jersey Shore Online at the time of publication.
