MANCHESTER — A vehicle fire temporarily shut down a section of County Road 539 Tuesday morning after a car became engulfed in flames, police said.

Manchester Township police responded to the area of County Road 539 and McMahon Avenue at about 6:39 a.m. June 9 for a report of a vehicle fire. When officers arrived, they found a black 2006 Toyota Camry fully involved in flames.

Police said officers confirmed the vehicle was empty and set up a safety perimeter while firefighters responded. County Road 539 was closed in both directions as the Whiting Volunteer Fire Company worked to bring the fire under control and extinguish it.

The driver, 28-year-old Irving Delacruzchino of New Brunswick, told police he was traveling south on County Road 539 when the vehicle experienced engine failure. After the car stopped, he saw smoke coming from the front of the vehicle and got out immediately, police said.

No passengers were inside the car, and no injuries were reported.

Police said the fire does not appear suspicious and was likely caused by an electrical issue. The Manchester Township Police Department thanked the Whiting Volunteer Fire Company for its quick response and work at the scene.
