MANCHESTER — A 26-year-old Manchester woman was critically injured Monday morning after her e-scooter collided with an SUV while she was trying to cross Route 37, police said.
The crash happened around 6:15 a.m. June 8 at the intersection of Route 37 and Buckingham Drive. Manchester police said Sabrina Hauge was riding a black e-scooter westbound on the shoulder as a white 2017 Chevrolet Suburban was traveling west in the left lane.

According to the preliminary investigation, Hauge reached the intersection first and attempted to cross Route 37. Police said the Suburban, driven by Anner Galvan-Vasquez, 24, of Toms River, proceeded through the traffic signal as Hauge continued turning south across the roadway.
The e-scooter struck the passenger side of the SUV, including the front fender, mirror and doors, police said. Hauge was thrown from the scooter and landed in the westbound lanes.
Hauge, who police said was not wearing a helmet, suffered extensive injuries and was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where she was listed in critical but stable condition. Galvan-Vasquez, who was wearing a seatbelt, was not injured.

Emergency responders from Manchester, South Toms River First Aid, Robert Wood Johnson paramedics and the New Jersey Department of Transportation Diversion Team assisted at the scene.
Police said the crash remains under investigation, but disregarding a traffic signal and improper crossing of the intersection appear to be the primary contributing factors. Patrolman Michael O’Hara of the department’s Traffic Safety Section is investigating.
