TOMS RIVER — Retired Superior Court Judge Edward J. Turnbach, who previously served two terms as Ocean County prosecutor, has died, officials announced.
Turnbach led the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office from 1976 through 1987 before being appointed to the Superior Court bench.
He later became presiding judge of the Criminal Division of Ocean County Superior Court in 2003 and remained in that position until retiring in 2006.
The Prosecutor’s Office remembered Turnbach for his commitment to justice, public service and the impartial application of the law.
Officials said he was widely respected throughout the county’s legal community for his judgment, professionalism, compassion and understanding of the law.
Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer and members of the Prosecutor’s Office offered condolences to Turnbach’s family, friends, colleagues and others mourning his death.
