LONG BEACH TOWNSHIP – A township man was arrested on drunken driving and drug charges after police said he drove into a restricted area of the township police department.
According to the Long Beach Township Police Department, the incident occurred June 18 when a vehicle entered the department through an entrance reserved for emergency vehicles and continued into the patrol vehicle parking lot.
Officers approached the driver to determine whether assistance was needed. During their investigation, police arrested James Leonetti, 56, of Long Beach Township, and charged him with driving while intoxicated.
Police said officers later obtained and executed a court-authorized search warrant for Leonetti’s vehicle with assistance from the Long Beach Township Detective Bureau. The search allegedly resulted in the discovery of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, leading to additional charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Leonetti was processed and released pending a future court appearance.
The police department said it remains committed to public safety through proactive enforcement efforts and recognized Patrolman Brachelli, Patrolman Burkhard, K-9 Zero, Patrolman Bazerque, Officer O’Cone, Detective Sgt. Fiorentino and Detective Delpriora for their roles in the investigation.
The charges are accusations, and Leonetti is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
