BAYVILLE — Berkeley Township police said no threat was found after a social media post by a juvenile student at Central Regional Middle School prompted an investigation Thursday.
Security staff at the school learned of the post April 30 and alerted the school resource officer, police said. The Berkeley Township Police Detective Bureau also assisted in reviewing the matter.
Police said the post did not contain a threat. Investigators contacted the students involved and their guardians, again determining there was no danger to students, staff or the public.
On Friday, police said misinformation about the incident began spreading on social media, leading detectives to conduct additional follow-up investigations. Authorities said they again found no threat to the school or community.
Anyone with information deemed important to the investigation is asked to contact the Berkeley Township Police Department Detective Bureau. Anonymous tips may be submitted through the department’s tip line or its website.
Police also urged parents to monitor their children’s social media use, warning that spreading misinformation online can cause public alarm and may be a crime in New Jersey.
