TOMS RIVER — A local esports training arena is giving families a different way to look at gaming, turning solo screen time into a supervised, team-based activity.

Valhallan Esports Training in Toms River, a family-owned gaming arena at 931 Fischer Blvd., was created as an alternative for parents concerned about excessive screen time, online safety and social isolation.

Instead of children playing alone, sessions at Valhallan are led by coaches and designed around teamwork. Players practice communication, collaboration and competition while working alongside peers in a structured setting.

Over the past year, the business has become part of the local community by offering a space for children who enjoy gaming to build confidence, friendships and real-world skills. For some students, esports adds to their traditional sports activities. For others, it offers a team environment they may not have found elsewhere.

The goal, according to the business, is to make gaming more productive and social. Parents have reported seeing children who once played alone become part of a team, set goals and support one another.

Valhallan officials said the arena is about more than esports. They said it is focused on community, accountability and giving children a place to belong.
