LAKEWOOD — A Lakewood man was arrested May 25 after police said a traffic stop on John Street led officers to suspected drugs and drug distribution materials.
Police said officers were conducting proactive patrols when they stopped a vehicle after observing suspicious activity. A department K-9 alerted officers to possible narcotics inside the vehicle, authorities said.
Officers reported finding suspected crack cocaine, suspected counterfeit pills and items commonly linked to drug distribution.
Santo Davila, 40, of Lakewood, was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and taken to the Ocean County Jail pending court proceedings. Police said he also received several motor vehicle summonses.
Chief Gregory H. Meyer credited the officers involved, saying their proactive work helps address narcotics activity and quality-of-life concerns in the township.
The investigation is continuing. The charge is an accusation, and Davila is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
