LACEY – Three police officers jumped into Barnegat Bay Tuesday morning and helped pull a possible drowning victim from the water near Bayfront Park, authorities said.
The rescue unfolded at about 11:17 a.m. June 30 in Forked River, after police were called to the area for a report of a person possibly drowning in the bay.
Officer Jason Lee, Officer Martin Julian and Officer Colin Space were the first to arrive. Police said the officers entered the water and, with help from a passing boater, were able to reach the victim and lift the person from the bay.
The officers immediately began CPR and brought the victim to a nearby beach, where lifesaving efforts continued as additional emergency crews arrived.
Lacey Township EMS, the Forked River Fire Department and RWJ Paramedics assisted at the scene.
The victim was taken to Community Medical Center, where police said they remain in critical condition.
