WALL — Two Monmouth County men have been charged following an investigation into a string of thefts and identity fraud incidents tied to locker room break-ins at the Genesis Health Club in Wall Township, police said.

The Wall Township Police Department Detective Bureau investigated multiple reports of valuables being stolen from secured lockers at the gym on Atlantic Avenue. Detective Michael Caccitore led the investigation, which ultimately uncovered what authorities described as a “bust-out” cellular fraud operation.

According to investigators, Andrew Cosenza allegedly checked into the fitness club before allowing Edward Byham to enter through a side door in an effort to avoid detection by front desk staff and surveillance cameras. Police said the pair targeted cash, credit cards and other personal belongings left inside lockers.

When officers arrested Cosenza on Dec. 20, 2025, authorities said he was carrying suspected heroin, prescription medication and several forms of identification belonging to other people, including U.S. passport cards and driver’s licenses from Georgia and New York. Investigators also recovered multiple stolen credit and debit cards.

Police said the investigation revealed a scheme in which stolen personal information was used to open cellular phone accounts and finance expensive electronics, including iPhones, Apple Watches and AirPods. Authorities allege the suspects intended to abandon the accounts without paying for the devices, which were reportedly shipped to an address connected to Cosenza.

Cosenza, 26, of Manasquan, was charged with credit card fraud, theft by unlawful taking and possession of a controlled dangerous substance.

Byham, 35, of Howell, was charged with identity theft, credit card theft and receiving stolen property.

Investigators also seized counterfeit checks during the investigation.

Both men were processed at Wall Township Police Headquarters before being transported to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution.

“This investigation shows the commitment of our Detective Bureau to protecting our residents from those who use stolen information for financial gain,” Lt. Steven Nash said in a statement.

The charges are accusations, and both defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
