HOWELL — Township police are warning everyone to stay out of the long-vacant Xscape Movie Theatre, saying the abandoned property has become a frequent target of break-ins, vandalism and trespassing.
The theater has been vacant for the past five years. Since closing, police said the property has experienced numerous incidents involving criminal mischief, unauthorized entry and damage.
Property management has repeatedly attempted to secure the building by reinforcing entry points, but police said individuals — primarily juveniles — continue to find ways inside.
Authorities emphasized that entering the building is both illegal and dangerous. Extensive deterioration and damage throughout the property have created significant safety hazards for anyone who enters.
Police warned that anyone caught trespassing or damaging the property could face criminal charges.
Officials also said videos posted on social media platforms, including TikTok, showing juveniles inside the abandoned theater have drawn additional attention to the location and encouraged others to trespass.
Parents are urged to speak with their children about the legal consequences and serious safety risks associated with entering the abandoned building.
