MANCHESTER – A sheet draped under the Manchester Township High School sign stated that the school was up for sale. While that may have been humorous to some, social media has lit up over claims that students broke into the building to vandalize it, including using slurs.

The Manchester Times reached out to Superintendent Diane Pedroza, Board of Education President Laura Wingler and Police Chief Antonio Ellis to sort through rumors and to determine the facts of the matter.

Chief Ellis responded that at this time, “we are not prepared to put out a press release due to the ongoing investigation. There may be pending charges, and there are adults as well as juveniles involved in this incident. We have been working in close collaboration with the Board of Education to investigate the incident and come to a conclusion in this matter with them.”

Superintendent Pedroza told The Manchester Times, “The district is aware of the incident that occurred on (the night of June 17 into the morning of June 18). We are continuing our investigation and reviewing all available information.”

“Because this matter involves students and student discipline, we are limited in what we can discuss. We can confirm that the activities that occurred after the Senior Prank exceeded the expectations and guidelines that had been communicated to students, and appropriate action will be taken in accordance with district policies and the student code of conduct. At this time, we have no further comment while the investigation remains ongoing,” she added.

The School Board has not yet responded to an inquiry about the extent of damage or racial and Antisemitic slurs that were allegedly part of the vandalism. They haven’t commented on information circulating about students involved not being allowed to walk in their graduation ceremony.
