MANCHESTER — A woman and a child were taken to the hospital after a car struck a parked vehicle early Sunday, police said.
The crash happened around 1:30 a.m. June 21 near Eighth Avenue and Cumberland Boulevard, according to the Manchester Township Police Department.
Police said a red 2018 Honda Fit was traveling west on Eighth Avenue toward Cumberland Boulevard when it hit the rear of a parked gold 2009 Hyundai Azera. The Hyundai had been parked within 50 feet of a stop sign, police said.
The Honda had heavy front-end damage, while the Hyundai sustained moderate damage to its rear, authorities said.
The Honda was driven by Ricardo Cleophat, 33, of Manchester, police said. He was wearing a seat belt and did not report being injured.
A passenger in the Honda, Vanessa Movil, 25, of Manchester, reported pain to her head, chest and leg, police said. Investigators said she was not wearing a seat belt. A 6-year-old child in the Honda reported a leg injury. Movil and the child were taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
A 2-year-old child who also was in the Honda did not appear to be hurt, police said.
The parked Hyundai was occupied by Yehuda Kellerman, 27, of Passaic, who did not report injuries, authorities said.
Manchester Township emergency medical technicians, Berkeley First Aid EMTs and Robert Wood Johnson paramedics assisted at the scene.
Police said the crash remains under investigation, though failure to maintain lane appears to be the main contributing factor. Patrolman Keith Douglas of the department’s Traffic Safety Section is investigating.
