ATLANTIC CITY – A Manahawkin man was killed in a chain-reaction crash on the westbound Atlantic City Expressway, according to New Jersey State Police.
Troopers responded to the scene near milepost 11.3 on the westbound side of the expressway, where a fatal collision occurred on June 20.
A preliminary investigation found that Joseph J. Pagano Jr., 34, of Manahawkin, was driving a Dodge pickup truck when he became involved in a separate crash with two other vehicles. Authorities said Pagano then attempted to pull his vehicle onto the shoulder and continued driving along the right side of the roadway.
Police said Pagano got out of the vehicle and crossed the westbound travel lanes and was struck by a Nissan SUV. He suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead as a result of the collision.
Following that crash, a Kia struck the Nissan involved in the incident. State police said the drivers and passengers in those vehicles sustained minor injuries.
No additional injuries were reported at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the New Jersey State Police.
