JACKSON — A 19-year-old Freehold man has been sentenced to 10 years in state prison for attempted murder after stabbing a woman at a Jackson apartment complex, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.
Jaden Thompson was sentenced Oct. 23 by Superior Court Judge Kenneth T. Palmer. He must serve at least 85% of the sentence before becoming eligible for parole under New Jersey’s No Early Release Act.
Palmer also imposed five-year sentences for child endangerment and eluding police. All three sentences will run concurrently. Thompson pleaded guilty to the charges Aug. 31.
Jackson police responded to a reported stabbing at the Paragon Apartments on Larsen Road on Nov. 27, 2025. Officers found a woman with a stab wound to her abdomen and an uninjured 19-month-old child nearby, authorities said.
The woman was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where she was treated and later released.
Investigators identified Thompson as the attacker and determined he had left in a black Hyundai Sonata, prosecutors said. Authorities filed charges that day and entered his information into a national law enforcement database.
Edison police located the vehicle the following day. When officers tried to pull it over, Thompson sped away and eventually crashed, authorities said. He then ran from the vehicle before officers apprehended him nearby.
Thompson was transferred to the Ocean County Jail on Nov. 29, 2025, and remained there pending the resolution of his case.
Supervising Assistant Prosecutor Kaitlyn Burke and Assistant Prosecutor Rachel Tarver prosecuted the case. Jackson, Edison and Carteret police, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office crime scene and K-9 units, and the U.S. Marshals Service assisted in the investigation.
