JACKSON – A township employee died Thursday after a single-vehicle crash in which his SUV struck a tree, authorities said.
Police responded at approximately 1:55 p.m. to South Cooksbridge Road near Westlake Boulevard for a report of a vehicle that had collided with a tree. While officers were en route, they were advised that CPR was in progress at the scene.
The driver, Ronald Miller, was identified as a Jackson Township building inspector who was on duty at the time of the crash. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle, officials said.
Miller was transported by the Jackson First Aid Squad to Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus, where he was pronounced dead despite lifesaving efforts.
According to a preliminary investigation, a 2013 Jeep Patriot registered to the township’s building department was traveling southbound when it left the roadway on the right side for unknown reasons. The vehicle struck several objects before coming to rest against a large maple tree.
The crash remains under investigation by the Jackson Township Police Traffic Safety Unit.
Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact Officer Thomas Parise or Sgt. Jeffrey Henba at 732-928-1111.
