FREEHOLD — Authorities are investigating a shooting involving an adult male that occurred Thursday afternoon on East Main Street in Freehold, near several government buildings and the public library.
The incident happened between South and Center streets as nearby Monmouth County offices were closing for the day, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.
Detectives from the prosecutor’s Major Crimes Unit and officers from the Freehold Borough Police Department responded to the scene and launched an active investigation. The area is located close to the Monmouth County Hall of Records and the county courthouse.
Officials said the shooting appears to be an isolated event and that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
Authorities urged residents to avoid the immediate area while the investigation continues. No details were released about the victim’s condition, and officials did not say whether any arrests have been made.
