BERKELEY — A motorcyclist was airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center after a bus driver allegedly ran a red light and the vehicles collided at Mule Road and Edgebrook Drive South on Oct. 30, police said.

Berkeley Township officers responded to the intersection at approximately 10:27 a.m. and found a crash involving a white Can-Am Spyder motorcycle and a Stout’s bus.

A preliminary investigation determined the motorcycle was heading east on Westbrook Drive, continuing straight toward Edgebrook Drive South, while the bus was traveling north on Mule Road, police said.

The bus driver proceeded through a red signal, and the motorcycle struck the driver’s side of the bus, according to police. The impact threw the motorcyclist onto the roadway.

The rider was semiconscious before being flown to the hospital for evaluation. The extent of the injuries was not immediately known. The bus driver was uninjured and declined medical treatment, police said.

Authorities temporarily closed the intersection while officers examined the scene. Both vehicles were towed.

Officer LaGreca of the Berkeley Township Traffic Safety Unit is investigating. Police did not release the drivers’ names or announce any charges.
